- HP Pavilion 15-EC1024AX
Hex-core 7nm CPU, balanced GPU, well-built.
Note: Since this is perpetually in/out of stock, also Consider the following variant of the same laptop; the 15-ec0100AX has an older but still very capable 4 core/8 thread CPU. The 15-ec1052AX is a 144hz display variant, if that’s your preference.
- HP Omen 15-EN0001AX
Packs a faster 1650Ti GPU, however the main reason to choose this is for its really good build quality.
- Acer Nitro 7 AN715–51
Next step-up in GPU performance is the 1660TI, which is what this laptop is based on. Also features a large 1TB SSD. Incase gaming is not a priority and you’d like a more powerful CPU instead, consider the Acer Nitro 5 AN515-44 alternative (7nm octa-core+1650).
- MSI GF65 Thin 9SEXR-438IN | ASUS ROG Strix G17 G712LU-H7015T
Coming in at the ~1L price sweet-spot, this laptop is unremarkable apart from its GPU and 120hz display (which are quite remarkable). Choose the ASUS Strix if you prefer a faster CPU and 17-inch display coupled with the 1660Ti at about the same price.
- MSI Creator 15M A10SE-467IN 6 fast cores, a 144hz display plus an RTX GPU to drive it and 16GB of RAM. Despite all the performance, this near desktop replacement laptop still manages to remain somewhat thin and light. If you prefer something beefier however, the Lenovo Legion 5Pi 82AW005SIN is a fine alternative for excellent-rather-than-good thermals and a full-size keyboard.
- Lenovo Legion 7i 81YU0029IN
Speaking of excellent thermals, you’d be hard-pressed to find another chassis that keep parts such as the i7 10875H(8C16T) and an RTX 2070 under check. At 2.25Kg, this is still in normal-laptop territory, making anything larger/heavier seem almost unnecessary.
